- I rent my property out through an agent or Air B&B do I still need to have it PAT Tested?
Yes if you live in Scotland, since Sept 2022 it has been the law that any properties that are rented out for money, have to have a licence to rent out property from the local authority and this usually means that the landlord has to have a PAT Certificate showing that the electrical items have been tested. Landlords had till March to get the paperwork in place.*
It should be noted that the PAT Testing is required on yearly basis in Scotland.
*There has been granted a six month extension to this deadline. But please don't leave it till September 2023 as am already quite booked that month!
- I have been told that I have to have our electrical items PAT tested urgently, how soon can you do this?
Depending on other bookings, usually quite quickly. Take a look at our Calendar, we put any bookings on there, so you can see when we are free to book.
Sometimes same day, depending on distance that we need to travel. If it is very urgent, then we can come at night, but the cost could be much higher.
- I have a lot of items to test, can you test them at a better price than other firms?
If you want your appliances tested cheaply and not properly tested then there are a lot of firms out there to choose from. However, if you want the work done to the correct and high standard, then choose us!
Clients have contacted us after a cheaper firm carried out work and we have had to completely retest all the items, some of which had been 'passed' by the other firm and clearly should not have been. Clients thinking of going down the cheap route should remember the old saying "buy cheap and you will pay twice."
- I have to clear a house, and want to give the electrical items to a charity shop, do you still charge?
While this is a good idea, we are not a charity ourselves, we would have to charge you. If you would like to donate them to Dementia Scotland on Main St, Golspie they use us to pre-test the items before selling them.
We can also uplift most small electrical items that are no longer being used or wanted by a client, as long as they still work and have the instructions (where applicable) with them, when we are testing the other items on site.
- How far from Golspie do you go to test items?
As far as is needed! (120 miles return from Golspie there is no mileage charge) We have tested for clients from Durness to Shaftsbury in Wiltshire. There may be testers that are nearer to you. If you have a lot of items, and most firms greatly underestimate the total, it can still be cost effective to use us. If you go and count everything with a plug, and include extension leads, then drop us an e-mail or phone us, we would be able to give you a better idea of the price.
- I have lost my Certificate, can I get another one?
Yes, if we have carried out the testing for you. There is a small charge for copies though. £5.00 inc VAT for up to 2 copies done at the same time. After that £5 per copy.
